Blog #4 in the series on success foundations. Context: Male, 29 years old
From our previous discussion on achieving celebrity we acknowledge that the likelihood of achieving this status is extremely low. Even harder is maintaining your position in the spotlight and maintaining performance at a high level year after year. Whether it is obvious or not the most successful people have a plan. It's a process that requires consistent application over a long period of time. What we see is only the tip of the iceberg for these athletes.
Let’s take for example Lebron James, this year the LA Lakers played 72 games, that’s 1.38 games per week or 66.24 minutes per week.
There are 10,080 minutes in a week which translates to 0.66% of his time spent playing basketball in the public spotlight. If we also take into account the amount of time Lebron sat out due to injury 0.66% drops down to 0.42%.
So what we see on TV is actually 0.42% of Lebron’s time and what we miss is 99.58% of what Lebron James does off the field. Off the field, Lebron likely spends his time similarly to most of us. When it comes to his career he is likely focused on:
- Practicing & Preparing - Refining and improving his skills
- Performing - displaying his skills
- Recovering - Allowing body and mind to recover after being stressed
In order for Lebron to put himself in the best position to succeed, Lebron has to ensure that he is also positioning himself best off the field as well. Making sure to invest in his health, relationships, and minimize distractions to keep being able to move forward and progress. This blog will focus predominantly on this on and off the field process, not for millionaire athletes but largely for the individuals that are not part of the .007%. This blog represents a blue print for readers to push towards higher levels of success.
